“Its light reaches each of us.” — Magda Szabó
We warmly invite you to join us as we light the first Advent candle and experience together the magical moment when Debrecen is bathed in Christmas light
The communal Advent candle-lightings mark the time of year when we step into the Christmas season and begin to prepare our hearts for the birth of light. In our city, it is now a tradition to light the Advent candles together with representatives of the historic churches and city leaders.
This is a heartfelt celebration in the heart of the city, where friends and strangers alike can share the wonder of waiting for Christmas. The small flickering flame on the Advent wreath not only brings light but also hope — showing that even in the deepest darkness, light will find its way.
Guests of the first candle-lighting of Debrecen Advent are invited at 16:30 in front of the Old Town Hall. From there, a Christmas procession will lead to the Reformed Great Church, where the first candle will be lit and the city of Debrecen will glow in festive light
