2:00 p.m. | Komádi Theater Company – Komádi Nativity Play
The Komádi Nativity Play Company revived old village traditions when they reintroduced the nativity play with children in 1998. Since then, the members of the Csicseriborsó Children’s Zither Orchestra have enriched the performances with music and games, dressed in traditional Komádi embroidered costumes. Today, the company lovingly represents Komádi’s nativity play heritage at Advent performances and events across the border.
2:20 p.m. | Csobotfalva Nativity Play Group
Since 1998, the Csobotfalva Nativity Play Group has been performing the shepherds’ play from house to house every Christmas, following the customs of their ancestors. Led by Imre Antal, they greet Csángó Hungarian families not only in their village, but also in Külsőrekecsény and Pusztina, strengthening their faith and community. The aim of the nativity play is to preserve traditions and the Hungarian language in the Csángó region.
2:50 p.m. | Csíkborzsova Nativity Play – The Holy Family Seeks Shelter
The Csíkborzsova nativity play, “The Holy Family Seeks Shelter,” is an old tradition that was performed on Christmas Day after Mass, going from house to house. The first record of it dates back to 1937, and after a few interruptions, it was rehearsed again and again, and in the 1990s, it was collected again with the help of Angéla Ferencz. The group has been a regular participant in the Carpathian Basin and Székely Land Nativity Scene Meetings for more than 15 years, and last year they hosted the 10th Székely Land Meeting.
3:20 p.m. | Nádudvar Nativity Players
The Nádudvar Nativity Players group consists of students from the Folk Crafts Vocational High School, who have been visiting the town and its surroundings during Advent for 20 years now. With their homemade costumes and nativity scene, they have performed not only locally, but also in Budapest, New York, and Rome. Their greatest pride is that, thanks to the influence of their young people, the local elders have revived the nativity play tradition, which was last performed in 1953.
