The Szironta Ensemble will fill the Debrecen Advent Fair with the sound of bells on December 19 at 5:00 p.m.
The concert by the Szironta Ensemble from Besnyő, one of Hungary’s leading bell choirs, promises to be a melodious choice. The ensemble was formed in 2004 and has been playing American bells, handbells, handchimes[1], and cymbals since 2016. Their instrument collection is considered rare even in Europe. With 5+3+3 octaves and a total of more than 100 handbells, they can play almost any piece of music, and their program reflects this diversity. In addition to the best-known pieces of classical music, their repertoire also includes contemporary and light music, film scores and, of course, the most famous Christmas melodies.
The ensemble’s goal is to promote and raise awareness of handbell music in Hungary and Central Europe, and they want to showcase their unique performance style to the whole world. In addition to performing in many European countries, they have also played in the United States, Singapore, the Victoria Concert Hall, Japan, and audiences in South America have also been able to experience Hungarian virtuosity with the help of their bells during their tour around Bogotá, Colombia. We have encountered them at a wide variety of events. Their bells have rung in castles, ballrooms, churches, and even the Parliament Building, but they are also regular contributors to the Budafok Dohnányi Orchestra’s Christmas concert show, “Igazából karácsony!” (It’s Really Christmas!), where they conjure up a true festive atmosphere for thousands of spectators with their bells.
