Christmas Lights – StEFREM’s concert with Sára Bolyki

Once again, the audience can tune in to the Christmas holiday at the Kölcsey Center with StEFREM’s Advent concert.

One of the best-known Hungarian acapella formations will take the stage this time with singer Sára Bolyki. The artist is at home in a variety of styles, just like the Men’s Group. The band’s CD Christmas Lights, released last year, forms the basis of the program, so the program includes Christmas and Advent songs from Hungarian, Anglo-Saxon, Northern European and Carpathian peoples. Famous secular tunes are also played; for example, Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker, Winter and Silent Night from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons are also performed in a special arrangement. The special feature of the evening is that these songs have not been performed before in this form – with the addition of a female soloist.

Sára Bolyki is a second-generation acapella player, the daughter of the oldest member of the Bolyki Brothers, a member of the Jazzation acapella formation. He graduated with honors from the folk singing department of the Liszt Ferenc University of Music, where he was invited to teach even before graduating. In addition to Jazzation, he also teaches elementary courses and is an invited soloist of Hungarian and Balkan folk music formations.
StEFREM from Budapest is a vocal ensemble with a special sound. The multi-award-winning formation regularly performs concerts all over Europe from London to Bucharest, but they have also performed in Africa, India and South America. They have worked with renowned artists such as Abeer Nehme, Victor Solomon and the King’s Singers. Since 2002, they have released 18 albums. Their rich and varied repertoire includes Byzantine and classical pieces, crossover adaptations and acapella pop songs.
